14.5" f/5 Newtonian

The scope is pictured at the 1997 Texas Star Party. Richard Berry (white shirt) and Al Kelly are in the background trading CCD imaging tricks of the trade.

The plexiglas cover is the hinged front of the Primary Mirror box. The light sock is streached INSIDE the double truss system. The secondary cage rotates for mor comfortable visual observing, and locks in place for astrophotography.

The forward light shield (the green extention) is a 1/4" foam ground pad, rolled into a tube with velcro securing it to the secondary cage.

The altitude drive motor and 4" byers 359:1 worm gear is in the plexiglass protective box. The turnbuckle tensioner on the latitude axis is to eliminate slippage between the drive roller and the altitude axis trunion if the scope is slightly unbalanced.

The Cookbook 245 CCD camera and focuser are rotated with an Andy Saulietis field rotator gear and a stepper motor controlled by Mel Bartel's control Software that also controls the altitude and azimuth drive motors.
